This was a great band that Uncle John and myself started after leaving
Johnny Winter.
From Left to Right: Uncle John Turner, drums; Mike Kindred, piano; me in
the center, Bruce Bowland, vocals; and John Stahely, guitar. Were we
together in 1970 and 1971.
We were the first band in Austin to wear Rock &
Roll clothes. This was a very cool band. We were a little vain, somewhat
arrogant, we had to be cool above all else. People loved us. Sex, drugs, and
rock & roll. We got pissed if the wind blew our hair out of place. We had
all of our clothes tailored, even our blue jeans. Bruce and
myself are still best friends and I love the guy. We were the crazy ones. We did tend to get high now and then.
(Hey, we were young and couldn’t die.) The girls
loved this band -- no complaints here. This was the biggest band in Texas
that didn’t have a record out. We were the ones who brought Stevie to
Austin when he was in Blackbird; later I joined that band.
