Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble

Before I add individual comments about these pictures, I would like to say a few words.

Playing with Stevie was the greatest thing that has ever happened in my life.  It would take a book to tell you everything.  I wish I could.  There are no words to tell you what it was like playing with him, being his friend, sharing my life with him.  When he died, a big piece of myself died with him.  I have learned that part of me is gone forever.

Sometimes I feel his presence and I turn my head and no one is there.  I met him when he was fourteen years old, and we were friends in every sense.  He was more than a brother to me.

Standing on stage with him brought out the best in me. The last ten years of playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble was the greatest of my life.  I am grateful that we touched so many people with our music.  I hope it was a blessing for you.

I am also thankful that Chris Layton (the Whipper) and I are still together.  We have been through so much through the years.  I wanted to have my own website, but this site is also for Double Trouble.  Reese is by far the greatest keyboard player I have ever played with.  We still play together when we can.  I love the guy.

Arc Angels

Comment:  This was one of the greatest bands I have ever been in. People still love this band. When we have a reunion, people fly in from all over the country!  If we would have stayed together, I have no doubt we would have been very successful. There were a lot of conflicts within the band; why, I honestly don’t know.  There were no reasons for any conflicts. I certainly didn’t have any problems with anyone in the band.  Maybe I was too complacent -- I don’t know.  It was of our own making that we threw away this gift.  I watched it all, more or less detached. There was nothing I could do.  What a terrible unnecessary waste!  Looking back I can say that Charlie was the strong one. He was willing to make it work. Then and now I have a lot of respect for Charlie.  People want to know why we don’t make another record. I don’t know. Nonetheless, this was a powerful band. One you don’t see too often.
