SOUTH TO HOST TRIBUTE/BENEFIT
IN MEMORY OF BUDDY MILES

Threadgill’s at 301 West Riverside Drive, Austin, Texas is
hosting a Tribute/Benefit/memorial for Buddy Miles on Sunday,
March 30th, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
The event will feature such great artists as: Cyrille Neville,
Billy Cox, Tommy Shannon, Kenny Olson, Bernie Worrell, Leo
Nocetelli, Joey Moealand, Greg Enrico, Michael Powers, Marlo
Henderson, Randy Pavlock and 24/7, Tammi Brown, Mark Leach,
Jesse Hait, Rod Kohn, and others.
Buddy Miles spent over fifty (50) years in the music world
recording over seventy (70) albums, many world tours, television
commercials, charity events and music videos.
He performed with some of the greatest names in music such as:
Stevie Wonder, Muddy Waters, Barry White, Aretha Franklin,
George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix,
Billy Cox and David Bowie among others.
He began playing drums at the age of (6) six, in his backyard,
using trashcan lids as his drum kit. Buddy then started
performing with his father’s band, “The Bebops,” in Omaha and
surrounding areas. He then began his professional career playing
with The Delfonics, Ink Spots, and Wilson Pickett.
Buddy then moved on to play with Michael Bloomfield and the
Electric Flag; he was a co-founder of the legendary Band of
Gypsys with Billy Cox and Jimi Hendrix. Buddy also recorded one
of the most famous television commercials in history - The
California Raisins featuring claymation dancing raisins. He
recorded, produced and performed on all three albums as well.
Buddy also performed at as many benefits and fundraisers as he
could; such as The Jazz Foundation of America, Hurricane
/Disaster relief, and the Children’s Craniofacial Association.
He also held a drum workshop at Texas State in San Marcos and
The Paul Green School of Rock here in Austin.
